General News & Opinion : Internet Explorer Log In problem

Anyone else experienced this problem?
For no apparent reason I recently found that I was suddenly unable to log in to several of my regular website accounts.
Typing in the correct username and pssword simply resulted in the log in page refreshing, with the entered details missing - but no log in.

I mailed a couple of the sites to be told it wasnt a problem at their end, which seemed to be correct as I soon got an email from a client who was having the same problem logging in to one of the sites that I had made for him. Added to that, I had no problems myself logging in to that particular site.

As I know for certain that no changes had taken place on the site I had designed, it seemed that this may have been an Internet Explorer issue following a recent update.

I switched to Firefox and advised my client to do the same, but after a couple of successful log-ins it started again for both of us.

A bit of googling on the issue suggested that it is some kind of cache issue, probably caused by IE, and affecting firefox too as I beleive they tend to share the same cache. The solutions given were to delete all temporary internet files, close down the browsers for a few minutes and try again.

Well that didnt work until I followed it up by a system re-start, when all of a sudden I could log in as normal to all the sites I had been having trouble with. It wasnt to last though. After being timed out, or logging out of a couple of sites, all attempts to log back in resulted in this strange refresh of the log in page.

My client even went as far as to upgrade to IE8.

I never did find a definitive solution to this and after a couple of deletions of temp internet files, (including all cookies, history and off-line pages), the problem seems to have gone away.
This leaves me more convinced than ever that it was some kind of upgrade to IE that has since been corrected that caused the error. No news from microsoft and very little on the web in general about other people having the same trouble.

If anyone knows - I'd love to hear the answer!
